SOS for Your Immune System
Here’s how to give your immune system a proper boost for the challenges of spring.
Winter is over, so how is your immune system doing after the past few months? Are you catching one infection after another, or have you made it through the cold season healthy and well?
If you belong to the first group, we’ve put together some SOS tips for you.
Light, fresh air and sleep
Vitamin D – preferably in drop form during winter, at least seven hours of sleep and plenty of fresh air: that’s the power trio in the immunity game.
The motto throughout winter is: There’s no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing. Whether it’s raining, snowing or the sun is shining, a brisk walk in the fresh air should be on the agenda every day.
Hot and cold
From the sauna into the snow, from a warm room into a cold lake, or, for those who prefer something a little more comfortable:
Alternating showers or Kneipp treatments can also give your immune system a real boost.
Zinc
A well-functioning immune system needs zinc. Zinc deficiency impairs immune defenses, resulting in more frequent infections. Foods high in zinc include liver, meat, cheeses such as Emmental and Edam, oats, soybeans, nuts, seeds and kernels. If you suspect you have a zinc deficiency, you should eat these foods more often. Or take a good zinc supplement.
Healthy food
To support your immune system, fruit and vegetables should be on your menu every day. Their high content of vitamins, minerals and trace elements strengthens immune defenses. High-quality protein from legumes, grains and nuts, or organic meat, as well as healthy oils and fats such as good-quality olive, rapeseed or linseed oil, should not be missing either.
1 good multivitamin supplement
Taking a good multivitamin supplement every day can also boost your immune system. However, it is no substitute for a healthy diet and regular exercise. According to the latest research, reducing stress is also particularly important for a strong immune system.
With these tips, nothing stands in the way of a healthy immune system for the final stretch of winter 🙂
