The DR · ÖSSLER Story

Founder and Chief Executive Tinkerer Clemens Drössler worked for years for Doctors Without Borders around the world as a logistics specialist and field coordinator. Among other places, he worked in fascinating and exotic countries in the Middle East and Africa, such as Syria, Yemen, Burundi, Malawi, Ivory Coast, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Haiti, and Niger. There he came across a special, traditional ginger syrup that is popular and widely enjoyed by the local population, especially for its refreshing, fruity, and spicy taste during the midday heat under the blazing sun, as well as for its health-promoting, immune-boosting effects.

He was immediately enthusiastic. Throughout his entire mission, Clemens drank nothing else. Only ginger syrup went into his cup, because there was nothing better for getting through the hot, exhausting days. On the day of his departure, he set out to find a few bottles to take home as gifts. He got lucky at a remote, dusty gas station, where he found and bought two bottles of the dark brown gold. He had thus secured the excellent-tasting ginger syrup for Austria. 🙂 Back in Vienna, however, the bottles were emptied even faster with his sisters and friends than you can say Dr. Össler, so Clemens had to look for more … but in vain. No luck: back then, it was impossible to find anything in stores or online and buy an equivalent product.

But Clemens is a creative mind who doesn't give up easily. At some point, he started experimenting in the kitchen and making different versions of ginger syrup. Over the years, the recipe kept getting better and received great feedback from enthusiastic friends and acquaintances in the hospitality industry … until the kitchen became history. Eventually, demand grew so much that it could no longer keep up, and he had to adapt production to meet demand.

From simple taverns and cafés to cocktail bars and fine dining restaurants … everyone was enthusiastic about and convinced by DR · ÖSSLER from the very beginning. Suddenly, they could work with a quality unlike anything seen before.
